Data centres are the engine
Management said data centre demand grew at a triple-digit rate in the quarter, the third quarter in a row. CEO Olivier Blum said that gives "increasing visibility into 2027 and 2028," and the company ended the quarter with another record order backlog.
Growth by sales type tells the same story:
- Systems (including prefabricated data centre power modules and cooling): +22%
- Products: +17%
- Software and services: +7%
By region, China and East Asia grew 26.1%, and North America, Schneider's largest market at 40% of sales, grew 19.9%, led by US data centres. Europe grew 8.6%.
Schneider raised its 2026 outlook for the second time this year. European shares closed out their best week since June on Friday, helped by results like this one.
So why did the stock fall this week?
On Tuesday, October 20, Schneider raised about €6 billion by selling new shares to big investors in an accelerated bookbuild, a quick overnight share sale. The money helps fund its agreed $22.6 billion cash purchase of US industrial-software maker PTC (our deal report).
New shares dilute existing owners, so the stock fell about 2.1%. Swiss rival ABB fell 5.3% the same morning despite reporting record orders, as the whole European industrial sector slipped on French protests and AI-financing worries.
Picks and shovels, with a caveat
Schneider is a classic "picks and shovels" AI play. It gets paid whether the winning chip comes from Nvidia, AMD or a custom design, because every server needs power and cooling. Our guide on who gets paid from AI capex maps the whole chain.
The caveat is the same one hitting the rest of AI this month: if data centre developers like CoreWeave struggle to borrow, orders could slow. Schneider says its visibility runs into 2028. Investors will want to see that hold.
What it means for investors
- Electrification is broader than AI. Schneider also benefits from grid upgrades, buildings and industry, which helps if AI spending cools.
- Watch the backlog. Record orders are the best sign demand hasn't peaked.
- Share sales happen. Big acquisitions often come with new equity. The short-term dip is the cost; the question is whether the deal earns more than it dilutes.

Frequently asked questions
How did Schneider Electric do in Q3 2026?
Schneider Electric reported record third-quarter revenue of €11.46 billion on October 16, 2026, up 16.9% organically, well above the 13.8% analysts expected. Energy Management, its largest division, grew 18.8% organically. The company raised its full-year 2026 target for the second time this year.
What does Schneider Electric do for data centres?
Schneider sells the electrical and cooling equipment that keeps data centres running: switchgear, power distribution, uninterruptible power supplies, prefabricated power modules and liquid and air cooling. Every AI server rack needs that gear, so it benefits from the build-out regardless of which chip wins.
Why did Schneider Electric stock fall after record results?
On October 20 Schneider raised about €6 billion by selling new shares to institutional investors in an accelerated bookbuild, to help fund its roughly $22.6 billion acquisition of US software maker PTC. Issuing new shares dilutes existing holders, and the stock fell about 2.1%. The broader European market was also weak because of protests in France.
Is Schneider Electric buying PTC?
Yes. Schneider agreed to pay $205 per share in cash for PTC, valuing its equity at about $22.6 billion. The deal is expected to close by the third quarter of 2027, with about €250 million of cost savings by the third year.
